The anterior leaflet has a semi-circular shape and attaches to two fifths of the annular circumference. There is continuity between the anterior leaflet of the mitral valve and the left and non-coronary cusp of the neighboring aortic valve, referred to as the aortic-mitral curtain. The aortic (AV) and mitral (MV) valves are coupled via a common fibrous continuity known as the aortic–mitral curtain or intervalvular fibrosa . As a result, the physiological function of either of these two valves involves the complementary function of the other [ 2 ]. Operative findings showed an extracardiac aneurysm of the interleaflet triangle above the aortic-mitral curtain. Because there was no sign of active inflammation, the orifice was closed with an autologous pericardial patch, and the aortic valve was replaced with a mechanical valve.
